GCV’s affiliated entities combined invested over $3 million to educate and mobilize voters to make their voice heard.

ATLANTA, GA — Georgia Conservation Voters is proud to celebrate the decisive victories of affordability and clean energy champions Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard to the Public Service Commission. These wins are a testament to Georgia voters who turned out in the hundreds of thousands to voice their opposition to costly utility bill hikes, corporate corruption, and toxic pollution. These wins mark the first time any Democrat has won a statewide, nonfederal office in Georgia since 2006. Dr. Alicia Johnson is also the second Black woman ever elected statewide in Georgia’s history.

Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund executed its largest electoral campaign in organization history, raising and spending more than $2.3 million this cycle, which targeted
over 1.8 million voters. The robust organizing and voter communications campaign included billboards, SMS texting, direct mail and digital ads squarely focused on costs, alongside a webpage “They Raised Your Bill” where voters could see just how much their bills have risen. All of GCV’s affiliated entities combined invested over $3 million to educate the voters on the stakes and turn them out in this critical election.
“The message of this election is unmistakable: Georgians demand an end to utility bill rate hikes and corporate politics as usual on the PSC,” said GCV Executive Director, Brionté McCorkle. “Georgia Conservation Voters and our affiliated entities invested over $3 million in these elections, marking our largest investment ever because we had to make sure voters knew the stakes at the ballot box – from utility bills to corporate polluters.”

“I’m thrilled we could play a critical role in electing Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard to the Public Service Commission where I know they will be partners in the fight for
clean air, clean water, and lower costs for all Georgians.” said GCVAF Deputy Director, Allie Brown.

Our team at GCV feels energized, grateful, and encouraged—and more determined than ever to keep pushing forward and building on this momentum. We will immediately brief the newly elected commissioners and provide recommendations for swift action to hold data centers accountable, expand access to rooftop solar, and most importantly, make electricity more affordable for all Georgians.
